How to Maintain Tape-In Hair Extensions

Every 6-8 weeks, your tape in extensions will need to be moved up as your natural hair grows. This process involves removing old tape, washing and clarifying your hair, applying fresh tape, and reinstalling the extensions. This process can take about 1-2 hours at the salon. 

To keep your extensions in the best shape:

  • Sleep with a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling.
  • Never sleep with wet hair - this weakens the bonds and can cause matting.
  • Avoid conditioner on the roots as it can break down the tape and cause slipping.
  • Use sulphate-free shampoo to protect the adhesive.

If your extensions start slipping, book a maintenance appointment and use a hat as a quick cover-up in the meantime!
